Academically
QuestBridge is looking for students earning primarily A's in the most challenging courses available at their school: honors, AP, IB where offered. The average unweighted GPA among 2025 Finalists was 3.9. If you submit test scores, the middle 50% range among Finalists was 1290 to 1460 on the SAT and 27 to 33 on the ACT. Test scores are not required, though. The QuestBridge Apply page is explicit: all applications are reviewed holistically, and you can opt not to submit scores at all.
Financially
The benchmark figure you'll see most often is an annual household income under $65,000 for a family of four. Notice that the Rankings Form opens on October 2, two days after the application deadline, and closes on October 15, six days before Finalist notifications on October 21. You are ranking schools before you know if you're a Finalist. Rankings don't determine Finalist status; they're used only after Finalist decisions are made.
How the QuestBridge Ranking System Actually Works
Per the official Ranking Colleges page, students can rank up to 15 of the 55 partner colleges in their genuine order of preference. QuestBridge's algorithm then tries to place you with the highest-ranked school on your list that is willing to offer you a Match Scholarship. Schools do not know where you ranked them relative to other schools.
You can only match to one school.

The binding commitment is functionally identical to a binding Early Decision agreement. Per the official QuestBridge FAQ on the binding commitment: "The binding nature is in place to benefit both parties: the student is ensured the full scholarship and the college is ensured that the student will attend." Match with Notre Dame, and you withdraw your applications to every other school and enroll at Notre Dame. No comparison shopping financial aid packages afterward. Notre Dame's own admissions office states it plainly: "Be sure to consider this as you build your ranking list."
Reneging on a Match has real consequences, including potential withdrawal of admission and financial aid offers, and it can affect your high school's future relationship with QuestBridge.
There's one exception: MIT is the only QuestBridge partner where the Match is non-binding. Several older posts claim Princeton and Yale are also non-binding. That's outdated and wrong.
The early application restriction is the other thing most students miss. If you rank any colleges through the NCM, you cannot simultaneously apply through Early Decision or Single-Choice Early Action (Harvard's SCEA, Yale's SCEA, and similar programs) at any school. You may apply through non-binding Early Action programs in some cases. If you are not named a Finalist on October 21, you're released from this restriction entirely and can apply wherever you want through whatever pathway you choose.

If you're named a Finalist on October 21, here's what the next six weeks look like.
Your QuestBridge application is automatically sent to every school you ranked. Then, by November 1, you must submit Match Requirements to each of those schools individually.
